Minic

1935 -

The Minic brand was set up by Lines Brothers ("Triang") in 1935. Originally used for the "Miniature Clockwork" range of painted tinplate toy vehicles, the "Minic" name was then applied to clockwork novelties, clockwork plastic-bodied cars, and then (straining the origins of the name) to push-and-go friction-powered versions of the cars, and then to electric models, unpowered cast metal 1:1200-scale ships and to more complex vehicle-related products such as Minic Motorways (a system with cars fitted to a slotted road, with some similarities to "Scalextric"), and even to the Tri-ang Minic Narrowgauge Railway (TMNR).
