Primus Engineering made a point of demonstrating that their system was a serious alternative to Meccano (in the 1910s and 1920s) by publishing a similarly intimidating range of designs.

Numbering

The numbering system has some sort of general order, but is slightly scatterred and there are inconsistencies and exceptions. Broadly speaking, the range 1-99 relates to models that can be built with a No.1 Outfit, and the range 100-199 relates to the No.2 Outfit. Models requiring a No.3 Outfit tend to be in the range 200-249, models requiring a No.4 set are usually in the range 250-299, and models requiring a No.5 Outfit tend to start at 300. With hindsight it might have been better to start the No.1 Outfit models with 1.., the No.2 Outfit models with 2.. , and so on.

When Primus produced their Big Wheel Outfit accessory pack, models that used and showed off the new parts were numbered starting at "one thousand".
