Snoopers Paradise is an engagingly chaotic indoor maze of independent market-stall display cabinets selling a combination of brac-a-brac, memorabilia, and anything else that's considered to be sufficiently random to appeal to their clientele.

It opened the same year as Brighton Toy and Model Museum – 1991 – when Frank and John Thompson bought the old Blundells furniture store and converted it into an indoor market.

Contents

Date-wise, the items range from Victoriana to 1920s-1950s magazines, 1960 furniture, to 1970s-1980 film and TV tie-ins, so it's a good place to find Doctor Who and Gerry Anderson toys.

There's also a working photobooth, which is handy if you need a passport photograph.

The stands and display cabinets are unmanned, so you either take your item to the checkout, or tell the staff the number of the glass cabinet that you're interested in, so that they can fetch the key and open it for you.

It's basically a great place to get lost for an hour, and it's one of the highlights of North Laine.

Location

Snooper's Paradise is pretty much in the dead centre of North Laine, occupying a consecutive set of adjacent shop units that have been knocked together, in the busy, pedestrianised Kensington Gardens. Because the road is narrow, and foot-traffic-only, and usually packed with people, you tend not to notice "Snoopers" until you are practically on top of it.
