A two-tone grey Hornby Series double-doored Luggage Van No.2 (GW) with two black four-wheel bogeys, from ~1926.
Description
The eight-wheeler "No.2" luggage van has a dark grey roof and bed, and a lighter-grey walls, with central hinged double-doors, and "GW" painted in large white letters on the adjoining section of van wall. The rectangular red and gold "Hornby Series" mark is on one end-face of the van.
Dating
The van is essentially the same as the one in the 1925 Hornby Book of Trains, apart from the railway company initials. "GW" is listed as an option in the 1926 catalogue, but not in the previous 1925, or subsequent 1927/28 catalogues, so we'd seem to be able to date this piece to 1926 (or close to 1926) with quite a high degree of confidence.
