" The giant tortoise is a ground tortoise, it is a very big species, it is stretching its neck. Only the carapace is brown, the rest of its body is grey, its neck is wrinkled, typical of this reptile known for its slowness. The model gives the impression of a very slow reptile. "

1940 catalogue description

" Generally speaking, Tortoises, of which there are a large variety, are confined to the warmer parts of the Earth, although a few species are found in Europe. In ancient times there were as many as twenty species alone of the Giant Tortoises, but owing to the rapid destruction of them by man, they are to-day in danger of complete extinction. "
