A silver metal MG Two-Seater Sports Car with working steering, made using the Prestacon metal construction system (Kit #14)

The model was donated in August 2022, and is currently waiting for a few repairs before being put on display.

Further work

We've already straightened a few bits and pieces, and swappd out the four wheels with slightly cleaner examples from the unused Prestacon Jeep Kit. We might add a clear windscreen using period acetate (or similar), and perhaps replace the existing windbreaker plate that the windscreen will attach to (and which is slightly wonky).

Additional headlights

When we received the model, it had one (non-Prestacon) lampholder roughly attached to one side of the front. We've taken this off and replaced it with a pair of working electrical headlights that were supplied by Meccano Ltd. in the 1930s as general-purpose accessories for cars and dollhouses via the Meccano Lighting Outfit. These are perfect for the model, and set it off nicely.

The Meccano Lighting Outfit contained miscellaneous lightng parts not //necessarily// for use with Meccano products, although the headlights were probably primarily aimed at the Meccano Motor Car Constructor sets. The small screws on the back of the headlights are not the standard Meccano bolts, but happens to match the small holes already present on the Prestacon model. The only thing about the Meccano-produced headlights that isn't utterly perfect for the Prestacon model is that the model is bare unpainted silver-coloured aluminium, whereas the back of the headlights are painted a very cheery bright red – we may well end up repainting these in silver.
