"Short-Mayo Composite Aircraft", Victory Jigsaw Puzzle M.A.2, probably manufactured in the 1930s.

The box end label says that the puzzle is 14 inches by 9 inches when assembled, and consists of about 175 wooden pieces.

Dating

The novel design of the Composite aircraft made it already quite famous by 1937, before it had flown. It set records in 1938, and the larger section was destroyed in 1941, giving the plane a very short lifespan.

The information sheet includes details of the plane's record-breaking events between June 1938 and October 1938, suggesting that the "topical" puzzle may have been manufactured in 1938-1941. It would probably have been produced earlier rather than later, and planned to be in the shops to coincide with the peak of publicity about the aircraft, in 1938. We think probably 1938 or 1939.
