1920s

A pair of oil-fired Street Lamps with rectangular bases and side ladders, Märklin 2838 made in the 1920s.

The slightly archaic design with a ladder (presumably for people to be able to light the real streetlamp) survived into the 1930 catalogue, but was gone by 1931.

1930 catalogue description:

Straßenlaternen Für oelbeleuchtung. Säule dient als oelbehalter, Beleuchtungskorper abschraubbar, brenner mit docht.

"Street lanterns for oil lighting. Column serves as an oil container, lighting unit can be unscrewed, burner with wick."
