Development

This 1937 model is the last prewar version. Preceding models were more colourful, locomotives in the range having coloured bases from 1933 to 1936 instead of the black base preceding and following models had.

The M1 series began in 1926, adapted from a design from the German company Bing. At first they were only available in green, but a red model was added in 1930, and dark red in 1932. The engine was a new type, close to the 1927 USA Hornby locomotives, with several newly patented additions. The wheels were a new, smaller type too, benefitting from improved casting methods.
