A maroon Hindle-Smart Electric Articulated Lorry with a yellow "British Railways" decal on the front. 1954-1960. The red, not matching maroon, wheel hubs identify the toy as a later version. Previously numbered 30w from 1953-1954.
Hindle-Smart
The original vehicle the toy is based on is the battery powered Jan-Helec, manufactured by the Manchester-based Hindle-Smart. The Jen-Helec was a contemporary of the petrol engine powered Jen-Tug from the same company.
