Glamour of Brighton

A mounted decorative etched glass clerestory panel from a British 12-wheeled Pullman car, "Princess Patricia", as used on the LB&SCR from around 1905.

The exhibit went on display in May 2015.

Clerestory windows

As an architectural feature borrowed from churches and cathedrals, the early Pullman cars had a central raised strip along the centre of the roof with a series of longish vertical glass panels along the sides to let in additional light. The same central raised area also housed the carriage lighting.
