A large red wooden Fire Engine made by the Lego company circa 1954, model 473 or 474. 473 and 474 were similar models with slightly different sizes – we should be able to be more precise the next time we open the display cabinet and have a chance to measure up the one on display.

Description

The fire truck is made of red-painted wood with silver painted windows and detailing. The front windscreen is a silver-painted rectangle with two large arcs left unpainted, representing the path of the windscreen wipers. The radiator grille is represented by a single horizontal silver slash with five vertical slashes. Wheels have red-painted wooden hubs with white (rubber?) tyres.

The front of the bonnet has a "LEGO Billund Denmark" decal.

The extensible ladder is unpainted wood with three sections, and rotates and raises, and there are a number of small abstract figures stowed in holes below the ladder, that are a little reminiscent of chess-piece pawns.
