The Scalextric Race-Tuned range was the company's "advanced" range for people who took slotcar racing seriously.

While Scalextric did very well out of producing "christmas tree" slotcar systems that the whole family could enjoy using (including small children), it was important that the brandname not come to be be considered as being "just for kids", or get a reputation for being inferior to other more specialist marques, so, like a few other slotcar companies, they had their "generic" range and a separate higher-specification "pro" range of cars (all using the same track).
