In-store racing, called one of the hottest dealer promotions of all time, has attracted the Ford Division of Ford Motor Company as co-sponsor, The Aurora Plastics Corporation, announced last month.

The Ford co-sponsorship adds fuel to Aurora's expectations that instore racing will be "the most important hobby promotion of 1962". Over half a million entries are anticipated.

"The Ford-Aurora 406 Grand National Model Motoring Competition" will open on March 1. By then, Aurora advertising director Bill Silverstein estimates there will be several thousand hobby dealers enrolled in the program. Participating dealers will be supplied with an impressive array of materials – including the special "406" Model Motoring Contest blueprint – with which to turn their hobby shops into racing headquarters.

Under the Ford-Aurora joint sponsorship, the contest will receive intensive backing throughout the country. A heavy advertising program in newspapers and magazines has been scheduled to break in April. In addition, dealers will be supplied with ad mats for local use and with banners, streamers and flyers.

The Ford-Aurora Competition is open to everyone – regardless of age or sex. Contestants driving miniature Model Motoring Fords will compete on local, state, regional and national levels for trophies and the Grand Prize – a 1962 Ford Thunderbird. The Grand Nationals will be held late in August in either Detroit or New York, and it is expected that they Will be televised.
