In April 2009, the museum coordinated with VisitBrighton to become Brighton's first tourist Visitor Information Point (VIP), an auxiliary to the main Tourist Information Centre alongside the Royal Pavilion. The Centre was later to close and be replaced with a network of additional VIPs.
The year also saw the installation of a "Discover Brighton" display upstairs in the Museum, with models of the Brighton Belle and Flying Scotsman.
This was also the year that the museum achieved Accredited Status with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).
