An 00-gauge model of the black 2-2-2 early "Centaur" Firefly-Class locomotive from 1841. The model has a black tender and a brown bed, and has two small white figures onboard.
The Firefly Class of broad-gauge (7' 1/4" track) locomotives were designed by Daniel Gooch for the Great Western Railway, and started being rolled out in 1840. The "Fireflies" have a distinctive rounded square metal firebox and seven-foot drivewheels.
"Centaur" ran from 1841 to 1867, and was built by Nasmyth, Gaskell and Co.
A replica of the original Firefly is kept at Didcot Railway Centre.
