The original "Alphonzo" bear has an interesting history. He was made by Steiff for a Russian princess (Xenia Georgievna) in 1908. In 1914, she took him to England on a visit to Buckingham Palace, but as World War One had started, she and her bear never returned to Russia.

Our replica Alphonzo bear was made by Steiff in 1990. His fur is an unusual red plush, he has authentic wood-wool stuffing, and black boot-button eyes. He wears a white-trimmed, orange cotton sateen suit with a Russian Cossack style tunic.
