BRIGHTON TOY AND MODEL MUSEUM LAUNCH
MAKING HISTORY FUN 2006-2007

On the 9th October 2006 Brighton Toy and Model Museum launched Making History Fun 2006-2007. The celebrations were launched by The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor David Smith. It was his first visit to the Toy Museum and he was delighted with the Museum and its superb collection.

During his speech the Mayor spoke of the importance of being aware of and protecting our local and national heritage. He then went on to share some of his own personal memories of his childhood toys.

The Director Chris Littledale and the Curator Claire Eden also gave speeches. In his speech Chris took the opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of supporting small Museums. He also thanked everyone who had supported the Museum in the last year. Claire's speech continued in this theme thanking the Museum volunteers, the Education Group and the Education Officer for their hard work with the project. She also thanked the Museum Development Officer for East Sussex Sonia Rasbery and Curatorial Advisor Jenny Hand for their continued support and guidance.

Making History Fun is aimed at making history more accessible and engaging for all the visitors to the Toy Museum as well as the local community. Many of the events and activities to be held throughout the year will be focused on local history, although being local will not be a requirement for enjoying the celebrations and maybe even learning something!

The launch also featured the opening of two new exhibitions: a toy figure exhibition "The Joy of Little People" and a "Toy Theatre" exhibition based on the memories of the Museum Education Officer Andrew Woodfield.
