A brown-and-cream luxury 12-wheel Pullman Dining Car with white roof, made in gauge 1 by Georges Carette for Bassett Lowke circa 1914.
While many Pullmans were eight-wheelers, Pullman twelve-wheeler carriages had two six-wheel bogies, which might have made the ride smoother, but was justified on some of the more extravagant carriages because of their extra weight. Early toy manufacturers tended to prefer to make models of the Pullman cars with four wheels per bogey, partly because of familiarity, and partly because of cost.
