A selection of wooden fretted figures from Alice in Wonderland and other stories.

At one point, jointed figures were a popular and cheap-to-produce toy being created across the world by Americans like Illa Fifield.

While the Don Quixote and Miscellaneous figures are by an unknown maker, the "Alice" figures were manufactured by one of the Lord Robert's Workshops. These were craft workshops made to support and retrain disabled veterans. The workshops largely dealt in furniture and dollmaking, but figures like these could be made quickly en masse during factory down time, and then painted quickly, thanks to their simplistic aesthetic.
