A 1:1200 painted diecast metal model of the Cunard Ocean Cruiser RMS Caronia, part of the Tri-Ang Minic range produced between 1959 and 1964, catalogue number M 701
The model has a white body and red funnel.
1960 description
M 701 R.M.S. CARONIA – Cunard Line, 34,200 tons, 2 screws, 715 feet long, 22 knots. The largest passenger liner built in the United Kingdom since the war and largely engaged on cruising. Length 7 inches (17.1 cm)
The original ship
This Minic Ships model is of RMS Caronia which followed a new direction for Cunard, being designed exclusively for cruising rather than general passenger service. She was built by John Brown & Company and, as the largest ship built post Second World War, there was much ceremony at her launch which was performed by the then Princess Elizabeth on 30th October 1947.
RMS Caronia's period of operation was 1947-1968.
