Description

Lettering is gold block capitals with a thin black outline, with the word "SHELL" flanked by the words "Motor Spirit" in smaller letters. The wagon has bright red body, base, trunions and couplings, and has an oval "Meccano Ltd. Liverpool" sticker on the tank's angled side-support. The central filler port on the top of the tank is high (as in the illustrations), but doesn't have the domed ventilator cap shown in the 1925 and 1928 catalogue images.

History

The Shell Petrol Wagon, introduced in 1922, was one of the first two pieces of Hornby rolling stock that weren't assembled "Meccano-style" with nuts and bolts.
