A white tinplate Hornby Series Loading Gauge, with black finial, black band around the post base, and smallish round black base.
Development
This version of the Loading gauge essentially corresponds to the version in the first (1925) Hornby Book of Trains, except that instead of a "Hornby Series" sticker, it has "Meccano Ltd" on the base, in gold letters directly onto the black.
While it might conceivably be older than 1925, by 1927 the catalogue was showing the piece with a larger rectangular blue base and blue finial.
