" There are three different types of King Penguin: the brown ones are wonderful but strange: it’s not common to see a brown penguin, the black one is more common, it is really carefully painted, its wings are open and its eyes admire the sky. The gold penguin is elegant as only this animal is able to be. "

1940 catalogue description

" This species is much larger than the ordinary Penguin, hence the name, and the plumage is much more gay. Like his smaller brethren, he is a great swimmer. "
