The Austin Motor Company was an automobile company founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin in Longbridge. Originally they specialised in luxury vehicles, but WW1 caused them to vastly expand their workforce and variety of vehicles produced, branching out into aircraft, trucks and other vehicles.

After a series of mergers, the company became part of British Leyland from its inception in 1968. The huge success of the Mini, produced under both the Austin and the Morris marques, couldn’t prevent a gradual decline. The current owner of the unused Austin marque is the SAIC Motor Corporation Limited.
