The German company Casige's main business seems to have originally been the production of small locks for pianos (hence the logo of an eagle carrying a horizontal key in its talons), but in 1902 they started using their expertise in making small intricate mechanisms to produce a range of sewing machines, and continued until 1975.

The company was originally founded by Carl Sieper, of Gevelsberg in Westfalen, Germany, with the first pair of letters of his first and second names, plus the first two letters of the town, giving the company name, Ca, Si, Ge.
